Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Principal District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority President Uma M G said legal literacy van and mobile Janata Nyayalaya campaign helps general public to get justice in an easier way.
Speaking after inaugurating both programmes for Mangaluru taluk, in a formal ceremony organised by District Legal Services Authority, Mangalore Bar Association, district administration, district and city police, Mangalore City Corporation, women’s and children development department, public instructions department, transport department and labour department at the court premises, she said it will spread awareness on laws through various activities on March 2, 3 and 4.
She said District Legal Services Authority not only creates awareness about laws, but solves problems through Lok Adalat. The mobile court, which comprises an advocate and a Legal Service Authority Secretary, will also helps to minimise the load on courts.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said through Dakshina Kannada has achieved 100 per cent literacy, legal literacy is need of the hour. Though people have knowledge about many laws, they need information on following them. They should understand the spirit of law. Mangalore Bar Association President S P Changappa said that awareness on law is necessary as ignorance of law has no excuse. People should know at least basic laws and rights of the country.
Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa, MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, RTO Afzal Ahmed Khan, Women’s and Children’s Development Department Deputy Director Gartrude Vegas were present among others.
