Udupi : Members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi on Wednesday.
Addressing protesters here, T.V. Hegde, president of the district unit of BJP, said that Ravi had made a name for himself as an efficient and honest officer at a young age. The government had transferred him many times due to pressure from vested interests.
The statement of Bengaluru Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi that this was a case of suicide even before the post-mortem report, raised doubts if the police was equipped to carry out the investigations, he said.
The government had appointed Pratap Reddy, who was the IGP of Internal Security Division, as the new IGP of CID. “All these matters have raised the doubts if the State police could handle the case. Hence the case should be handed over to the CBI for an impartial probe,” he said.
