Mangaluru : Saint poet and 16th century social reformer Kanakadasa’s four major literary works and “keertans” are expected to be ready in 15 Indian languages by the end of this October, according to Ka. Ta. Chikkanna, co-ordinator, Rasthtriya Santakavi Kanakadasa Adhyayana Mattu Samshodana Kendra, Bengaluru.
Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a workshop on translating the works of Kanakadasa to Tulu, Konkani, Beary and Malayalam here on Wednesday he said that four of his works ‘Mohana Tarangini’, ‘Nala Charitre’, ‘Ramadhanya Charite’ and ‘Haribhakthisara’ were now being translated to 15 languages.
In addition, his 316 “keertans” were also being translated to those languages. All literary works put together a volume in each of 15 languages would have 1,550 pages.
Other languages in which it was being translated were Tamil, Sanskrit, English, Urdu, Marathi, Kodava, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Pujabi and Assamese.
The State government has released Rs. one crore for the project which would cost Rs. 2.5 crores, he said.
