Mangaluru : South MLA J R Lobo has directed Mangalore City Corporation officials to reduce response time during rain hazards. A team from health, revenue and engineering department should be kept ready to deal the situation with humanitarian angle.
Speaking at a review meeting at MCC building here on Saturday, he said during last rains condition was worst in Bamboo bazaar, Rao and Rao Circle, Pump well and many other places. “If it repeats, inspite of calling officials I would visit the place myself. Official should concentrate more on Kodialbail, Hoigebazar, Bajal and Bundar areas,” he said.
“There should not be any delay in issuing no violation certificates for constructions without any violation or for minor reasons. If there is any technical problem, bring it to the notice of the commissioner, but if this trend continues I would talk to the Urban Development Minister and replace all DPOs with civil engineers,” he warned. Land acquisition for UGD can be done under Right of Way Act and officials need not sit helpless without continuing development works, he said.
The MLA also discussed about the proposed three floor bus stand at Pumpwell and upgradation of Kadri, Kankanady, Urwa and Central markets with modern facilities.
He suggested builder Dharmaraj to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the projects and promised of getting funds sanctioned from the government. Another meeting on the upgradation of markets would be called by May second week.
The meeting chaired by the MLA also raised objections about the irrational classification of commercial and residential values in City.
Lobo said that the corporation should look into the classification and naming of the roads, lanes and inner lanes should be addressed. Now, single commercial value is fixed to few roads irrationally, without considering the commercial value, he said.
He said local corporators and officials can review the places and suggest names till May 31. The Mayor should pass a circular about the valuation of commercial and residential value to all corporators. A calendar should be prepared with the details of valuation, including date and persons to be involved. CREDAI President D B Mehta expressed concern that no residential should be harassed in the process.
Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred, Deputy Mayor Purushotham Chitrapur, Dharmaraj of Infrastructure Development Foundation, Corporator Shashidhar Hegde were present among others.
