Mangaluru : JD(S) district unit President Mohammed Kunhi Vittal has alleged that sand mafia is rampant in the district and officials are hand in glove with the sand mafia.
Briefing reporters here, on Tuesday, he said thousands of lorries carrying sand travel from Adyar to Sullia. Illegal sand mining is rampant on the river basin in DK and the officials have failed to act tough against illegal sand miners. “Corruption has reached its peak in the district,” he said.
A common man fails to get sand for constructing a house, he added.
Stating that the JD(S) supported candidates wil have an upper hand in the gram panchayat elections, he said that the JD(S) supported candidates will contest for maximum number of seats in the district. Over 55 JD(S) supported candidates have filed their nominations in the district.
Stating that the Congress-led government has failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people in rural areas in the last two years, the JD(S) president said that the people from rural areas face disruption in power supply and water crisis.
