Mangaluru: In an incident a newborn baby died in Lady Goschen Hospital here on Sunday, June 28.
It is said, a woman named Prabhavati, wife of Aman, a Kunjathbail resident was admitted to the hospital for delivery on June 25. On the same day, she delivered a boy baby through caesarian. The baby was fine until fine 2 pm on Sunday, but died within the next half an hour family members said.
The baby faced breathing problem and turned blue. The doctor tried to save the baby but could not save unfortunately. The doctors at the hospital had asked him to get the blood test of the baby done from another hospital.
The family members alleged that negligence of the hospital doctors resulted in the death of the infant. The baby was kept in incubator and it died as current passed through the baby’s body.
The Hospital doctor said that the baby might have died due to aspiration of milk or due to suffocation during feeding and that there was no fault on the part of doctors. Asked why the blood test was recommended, he said that it was only to check for jaundice.
He also said the babies are kept in incubators so that they get adjusted to normal temperature and that there was no question of current passing through the body.
The family members and relatives demanded stern action against the hospital authority.
