Mangaluru : The International Bunts Welfare Trust felicitated Kripa Alva, the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, here on Wednesday, July 8.
Speaking on the occassion Kripa Alva, said that an expert committee will be constituted to look into recommendations made by her predecessor Venkatesh Nayak regarding children affected by endosulfan pesticide.
Ms. Alva said the recommendations made by Mr. Nayak were general in nature. “It is still with me in my car and has not been submitted to the government,” she said.
Ms. Alva said she had meeting with other members of the Commission and it was decided to constitute an expert committee. “We are yet to decide on the composition of the expert committee,” she said. The recommendations made by Mr. Nayak did not reflect the ground situation. The expert committee will look at the ground reality and based on their recommendations, the report would be modified and sent to the State government, she said.
In the report submitted a few days before he demitted office, Mr. Nayak said there was need to find the number of children affected by endosulfan in the three districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, the ailments they are suffering and their present health condition.
