Mangaluru : The State government has sanctioned Rs. 9.5 crore for building new apartments for government employees in Derebail and Hathill, for renovating existing government quarters at Urwa Stores, and building new apartment at Urwa Stores, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, said here on Saturday.
He told presspersons that he had raised concerns over the poor condition of government quarters at Urwa Stores in the Legislative Council. Mr. D’Souza said the government had sanctioned Rs. 8.6 crore for renovation of government quarters in Urwa Stores and building a new aprtment.
It has sanctioned Rs. 1.8 crore for building an apartment with six flats in Derebail and Rs. 1.75 crore for an apartment with four flats in Hathill.
Mr. D’Souza said the government had agreed for the repair of quarters in Police Lane.
Welcoming the decision of the government to include Mangaluru in the list of cities under the “B” category, Mr. D’Souza said this would benefit ‘C’ and ‘D’ group employees.
“I want these employees to save the excess money they get and build their own houses,” Mr. D’Souza said and added that he had raised in the Legislative Council the need to upgrade the city to “B” category.
