Delhi : Police Special Cell is all set to gear up safety and security measures at its office situated in Lodhi Road area following inputs about a 26/11-type fidayeen attack. According to Special Cell officials, the elite group wants more security at their office; and to ensure that several equipment will be installed soon to stop any forced entry.
Recently, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) issued a general alert about a possible attack in Delhi akin the Mumbai terror attack of 2008. According to sources, terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and other extremist groups operating in J&K and Kashmir are planning an attack ahead of the Independence Day.
Following the alert, Delhi Police Special Cell decided to install pop-up spike barriers at the entrance gate in their Lodhi Colony office. Delhi Police have already floated tender in this connection. According to Special Cell sources, they need latest automatic and manual spike barriers from the specialised unit that has installed security equipment for SPG, NSG, MHA, CISF and BSF.
“Currently, Delhi Police commandos are protecting the Special Cell office. CCTVs have been installed at various strategic points covering every part of the office and connecting road. But, we don’t have any safety equipment if someone tries to enter forcefully in a vehicle. We need safety equipments for the office,” a senior Delhi Police official said.
“Recently we floated the tender. We need metal spikes sufficient enough to bear weight of 20 tonnes. Also, it should open and close in less than three seconds. The equipment should be of high quality and must be water-proof,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the intelligence agencies have issued an alert regarding a terror attack. Last month, Delhi Police also sent an order regarding use of drones. According to Delhi Police, other than government organisations no one else shall be allowed to use drones. Delhi Police said strict action will be taken against users of drones in Delhi.
