Mangaluru : Former Union finance minister B Janardhan Poojary said Narendra Modi government has imposed undeclared emergency in the country by weakening the main pillars of the Constitution including judiciary, executive and also by curbing the rights of media.
Briefing reporters, here on Friday, he said media plays a huge role in the protection of democracy.
But, now the Union Ministry for Information and Broadcasting has denied renewing the license of Sun TV group which has 33 TV channels and 43 radio stations.
The government wants those newspapers and TV channels which support its policy.
There is an attempt to snatch the right of media which would give wrong signal to the nation. Journalist should protest such attempts and it should begin from Mangaluru, he said.
Journalists are being murdered in many parts of the country. Narendra Modi should remember that he is Prime Minister for every citizen of the country. Is he expecting journalists to hail his each and every step? He should remember that people are observing everything and they are with media, which has become necessity today, Poojary said.
The former minister said the Prime Minister has become literally dumb in these days. Though media brought many scams into limelight, Modi is not speaking.
In Vyapam scam more than 50 people have been killed suspiciously and injustice was done to lakh of students.
During coal allocation scam, BJP had demanded statement from the prime minister before discussion. Now, if Modi has any morality he should speak about Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chauhan as a leader of Lok Sabha, he said.
“He should respect media at least. It has been reported that Prime Minister has directed that no one from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) should interact with media. Modi also wants MPs not to give media statements. Then how system will run? I had compared him with German dictator Adolf Hitler before the election. Now, a Shivsena Mayor also did the same. It is the time to introspection for Modi,” the former minister said.
