Thane : At least eleven people are dead and seven injured in a building collapse in Thane district of Maharashtra, early Tuesday morning. More than 15 persons are suspected to be trapped inside the building, said Thane Municipal Offficer.
Five persons from Bantwal who lost their lives in the incident. The rescue team reached around 4 am. Rescue operations are currently underway and a team of NDRF is at the site. “We managed to save the life of 15 residents trapped inside the building. 7 were dead. The rescue operation was completed in 6 hours. We saved two lives because of our dog squads,” said Parth Sen an inspector in chage of National Disaster Rescue.
The Thane Municipal Corporation official said that that there were five families living in Krishna Niwas.
“The first and second floors were empty however third floor was occupied by these families. This building is built in the year 1965 . No notice was issued by us, however we had in general asked to do structural audit of the building,” said Manoj Joshi, Deputy Municipal Commissioner from Thane Municipal Corporation.
“We have been informed that on Monday some plaster of the ceiling fell off and also some renovation was on ,” added Joshi. The injured are sent for the treatment to Civil Hospital in Thane.
Thane Municipal Corporation had issued notices to residents of the Krishna Niwas building as it was in a dilapidated condition, the officials said.

Last week, a three-storey residential building collapsed in Thakurli area of Thane, leaving nine dead.
