Mangaluru : The BJP demanded on Saturday that the State government and B. Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology in particular should reveal the contents of the report on the recommendations of Kasturirangan Committee Report to be submitted to the Union government.
Addressing presspersons after the party’s district committee meeting Pratapsimha Nayak, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the party, said Mr. Rai should come out with details on how many meetings have been held at the gram panchayat level to know the opinion of people on the recommendations of the committee.
Mr. Rai, the district in-charge minister, should come out whether any meeting in the district-level have been conducted to know the pulse of people.
He said that the extended deadline to submit the report to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest would end in September. “If the State government has not submitted the report, as this is the information we have, it should do so at least now,” he said.
Criticising the government for its failure to protect the interests of farmers in the State, he alleged that the State had failed to send a status report on farmers’ suicides as sought by the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
