Mangaluru : Taking serious note of action from banks, commercial as well as cooperative, to recover loans from farmers, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim on Wednesday directed them to desist from such actions.
They should neither issue loan recovery notices nor press civil cases before courts, Mr. Ibrahim told the bankers at a meeting to hear grievances of farmers here. The government would take a suitable decision in the matter, he added.
He was responding to a series of complaints from farmers with regard to continued loan recovery action from banks despite a direction not to do such activities by the government and state-level bankers committee. The PCLD bank at Puttur has forced a farmer to pledge his gold with an NBFC to repay the loan and publicly claimed its success in loan recovery, one farmer alleged.
Senior officials from the district administration were present.
