The local city buses and those on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri, Mangaluru-Udupi and Mangaluru-Puttur routes were off the road, as also most other vehicles, except those transporting essential commodities. Autorickshaws plying were few in number.
Many of the schools and colleges remained closed. Stone was thrown to damage the windshield of a bus belonging to a Moodbidri-based college near Naguri. Similarly stone was thrown on a KSRTC bus coming from Hubballi and on a lorry at Malentabettu near Belthangady.
There were few passengers coming by trains at the Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction railway stations. “All those who had gone there have returned here empty handed,” said autorickshaw driver Kishore Bolar, who was one among the drivers waiting for passengers at the Lalbagh junction where a long line of autorickshaws was seen.
Similar long line of autorickshaws was seen at Jyothi Theatre circle and at the PVS circle on Wednesday morning. “We hope to do some business in the first few hours in the morning before we call it a day,” said another autorickshaw driver Mohammed Basheer.
