Mangaluru : An 18-year-old girl student of Alva’s Educational Institutions, hailing from Bengaluru, allegedly committed suicide on the college hostel premises in Moodbidri on Sunday.
The police said Rakshita, a student of first year B.Com, is the daughter of Anand Kumar, a resident of Jayanagar in Bengaluru. The police said that Rakshita had completed her PU with the Alva’s and continued her undergraduate studies there.
Moodbidri police said the girl was in normal mood and had slept along with her room-mates in the hostel room. However, she was not found on Sunday morning in the room and after a thorough search, the body was found in a bathroom, with the doors locked from the inside. She had reportedly written “Sorry Mom, Sorry Dad” on the bathroom wall even as police said that she had left no note.
The police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are awaiting the post-mortem report.
Candle-light protest
Several students under the banner of All College Students Union staged a candle-light protest in Mangaluru on Sunday evening against the incident.
The protesters urged other students not to get depressed and resort to suicide. If they have any problem, students should approach the union, which would help address their grievances, they said.
