Mangaluru: All College Students Association has called for an all-college bandh in the district on September 19 and will carry out protest against the government Opposing the Yettinahole project. Meanwhile, the association has demanded the elected representatives to step down if they cannot stop the unscientific project.
Addressing a press conference at Arya Samaja Mandir here on Thursday, Association Legal Advisor Dinakar Shetty said the Yettinahole project was being implemented illegally. The district is becoming a scapegoat for the political interests of State and Central governments. “Poor should get all the documents right to build a house, however, no law applies to this Rs 13,000-crore project,” he said.
Coming down heavily against former chief ministers Veerappa Moily and D V Sadananda Gowda, he said that they had cheated the people of their home district. Especially, D V Sadananda Gowda has created a situation where districts have to fight for water. The student association will show its strength during his visit to Mangaluru on September 26.
The Forest Minister Ramanath Rai doesn’t know about the project. Other ministers, who couldn’t oppose the proposal as MLAs, are now busy in blame game. The MP claims that he wrote a letter to the Central government, but it is too late, he said. “All elected representatives should be present during the protest at Uppinangady on September 15 and answer 10 questions on the project,” he added.
Dinakar Shetty said that the association would distribute handouts to create awareness among people about affects of the project. “We seek support from all 95 college administrations for the college bandh which is being done for the public cause. We will speak to the college administrations as well as to the religious leaders including Dr D Veerendra Heggade to seek their support.
“On the day, a rally will be held from Ambedkar (Jyoti) Circle to DC office, prior to the protest. We extend our support to all kind of agitations being organised by activist Dinesh Holla,” he said. Association District president Rohini, Working president Prabeet Kumar, Mangaluru president Samarth R Rai, State General Secretary Shifal Raj, State Secretary Mohammed Harshad were present among others.
