Mangaluru : Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru MP, inaugurated the passenger lifts at Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Saturday.
Speaking after inauguration he said that they would be useful for senior citizens, people with disabilities, women with kids and passengers with heavy luggage.
It was a long-pending demand of passengers and activists. The lifts installed at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh could accommodate 26 people at a time. They connected passengers with platforms I, II and III.
The MP said that two escalators at a cost of Rs. 2.38 crores would be commissioned at the station by March next.
Their installations works were under progress. Each escalator would cost Rs. 1.19 crore.
They also linked passengers with platforms I, II and III.
Anand Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, Southern Railway and other railway officials were present.
