Konaje : A third year BE (civil) student was allegedly assaulted by a group of 15 students inside the chamber of the college principal in Konaje police station limits near Mangaluru on Saturday.
The incident occurred at P.A. Engineering College, Nadupadavu, near Konaje. According to the police, Venkataramana was in a discussion with the principal on Saturday evening. At that moment, Vajir and 14 others, all fourth year students of BE (mechanical) entered the chambers and assaulted Venkataramana.
The police said Vajir held a stone in his hand and thrashed it on the victim’s head. However, other students and the staff intervened and rescued the victim. The principal later approached the Konaje police and registered an FIR. The police have registered a case of rioting against the accused. They said the principal did not say it was an incident of ragging, nor it was found to be one during the police investigation. The victim is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in nearby Deralakatte. While the victim hailed from Ballari, Vajir hailed from Kannur, the police added.
Meanwhile, the classmates of the victim have planned a protest on Monday against the assault.
