Udupi: A mentally disturbed man created tense moments in Mallar area after climbing one of the minarets of Ghousia Mosque at Kombugudde mosque on Sunday, November 8.

The police and locals had to struggle to get the half naked man identified as Alam (21) from North India off the minaret.

It is said that without any rhyme or reason, Alam climbed the minaret and refused to get off. He did not even budge down to police and fire personnel. finally the locals managed to convince the youth to jump off the minaret. The locals then managed to hold bed sheets around the minaret so that they could stop him from falling on the ground.

This plan worked and thus rescued Alam was sent to Vishwasadamane in Shankarapura by social worker Suri Shetty and others.
