Mangaluru: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Harish Poojary, on Thursday, November 19, at Mani in Bantwal Taluk.
The arrested are rowdy-sheeters Bhuvith Shetty (25) and Achyuta (28). Three accused in the case will be arrested soon, said IGP Amrit Paul on Thursday in a press conference.
It may be recalled Bhuvith, an active member of a right-wing outfit was arrested couple of months ago when he posted some content on social networking site justifying the killing of M M Kalburgi.
The IGP said that a special police team was formed under the leadership of Bantwal ASP and ACP and after seven days probe the two arrests were made.
During the interrogation, the two accused have revealed that the murder took place due to mistaken identity as the the attackers presumed Harish to be from other community.
On a query on the outfit that the two accused were affiliated to, the IGP said that both are strongly connected to right-wing outfits but the role of the outfit in the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Bhuvith is already facing three criminal cases while Achyuta is an accused in two cases, Amrit Paul said.
On November 12, a SDPI rally turned violent when one of the speakers made disparaging statements against Hindu outfits. As retaliation to this miscreants pelted stones and at about 7.30 pm Harish and his friend Samiulla were attacked. In the attack Harish died and Samiulla suffered severe injuries.
