Belthangady : A 34-year-old man allegedly attacked the woman he wanted to marry and then killed himself by shooting himself in Dharmasthala on Thursday evening.

According to the Belthangady police, Umesh Gowda (34) had proposed to marry Honnamma (37), who worked in an anganwadi. Honnamma refused Umesh Gowda’s offer as he was allegedly addicted to alcohol. Umesh Gowda had been allegedly harassing her for the last few days.

Umesh Gowda allegedly came to the anganwadi inebriated. He reportedly used a sickle to attack Honnamma. She was hit on her palm and managed to run away. Umesh Gowda then reportedly shot himself with a gun that he he was carrying. The police said that Umesh Gowda died on the spot. Honnamma has been admitted to a local hospital.
