Mangaluru : Sudheendra Tirtha, seer of Kashi Mutt Samsthan, Haridwar passed away early on Sunday. He was 90.
The mutt, belonging to Gowda Saraswat Brahmins (a Konkani-speaking community), has many followers in the coastal belt in the State, including many in Mangaluru, and in the country.
Narasimha Acharya, Tantri, Kasthi Mutt, Mangaluru told media from Haridwar that the seer was suffering from age-related illness. He was being treated at a hospital in Mumbai. The seer was airlifted from Mumbai to Haridwar on Saturday morning as per his wish. He died at Haridwar at about 1.16 a.m. on Sunday.
His last rites would be performed in Haridwar on Sunday. Born in Ernakulam in Kerala, he was the 20th seer of the mutt.
B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology has condoled his death. In a statement, the Minister said the seer had contributed immensely to the welfare of society.
