Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested notorious cattle thief Mohammed Sheriff alias Military Sheriff (36) for his involvement in various cases of cattle theft. He also wanted in several cheque bounce cases.

Sheriff initially resided at Kasba Bengre but later shifted to Kudkorigudde in Kankanady. The police say that he was involved in several cases of theft in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru. Though he received bail in several cases, he avoided his presence in court. Sources say that he was arrested while he was near Mangaluru Junction railway station.

Officials state that apart from cattle theft, Sheriff also faced charges in cheque bounce cases in Suratkal, Karkala, Beltangady and Bantwal; he was also involved in stealing six cows after a vehicle transporting the cows met with an accident at Belehonnur.
