Bangalore: H.D. Kumaraswamy of J.D-S, fondly known as ‘Shakuni’ in state politics, has increased his own wealth 16 times in 2010 what it was when he was a mere MLA, but nothing can be said definitely on the bulging property in the last 5 years of this third son of H.D Devegowda, MP.
One thing is certain that in 2005, HDK had properties valued at Rs.3.06 crores only, but now in 2010, he owns assets worth Rs.49.85 crores, thereby raising his incomes by 16.30 times. These figures are prepared by a public body called ‘National social watch’ in the citizens report under the head ‘our MPs’ achievements in 2010. Obviously, the attainments are selfish.
In Parliament: Rajeev Chandrashekhar, a Karnataka Rajya Sabha MP, who collided with Ratan Tata, Vijay Mallya and other businessmen in India over their exorbitant personal wealth, has exposed their assets and worth to the public at large. He described Andhra Congress MP, Lagadapathi Rajgopal’s increase in wealth as record-breaking. Lagadapathi (literally, man of destruction or Lord Siva) had assets worth Rs.9.25 crores in 2005, but commands assets worth Rs.289 crores and calls himself a servant of people (of course, in politics) these days.
According to the N.S watch (dog), out of 543 MPs about 25% or 128 of them are in construction fields or real estate, as builders or development lords.
BJP parliamentarians are not behind other rich MPs either, although they talk of Hindu patriotism and Hindu values at large. Menaka Gandhi has trebled her assets in 6 years from 6 to 18 crores of rupees. Bihar MP Uday Singh raised his wealth to Rs.44 crores from about Rs.3 crores in 5 years. It adds to their love of motherland.
In the last Lok Sabha, out of the best 10 MPs, 5 were shown the door by voters, in various states, a study revealed today. One fails to understand and appreciate such individuals on a mega cycle.
