Mangaluru : A miscreant took away a bag containing Rs. 9 lakh cash while the businessman-owner of the bag had just kept it on the seat of his two-wheeler to wear the helmet here on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at the busy Central Market area in the city and being a Sunday the market was abuzz with people.
According to Mangaluru North police, the victim — Navaz Hasanabba — was taking the cash home only to deposit it in the bank on Monday morning.
He carried the cash in a laptop bag and came down from his shop to the parking lot at around 11.30 a.m.
After keeping the bag on his two-wheeler, Mr. Hasanabba turned to wear helmet. As he turned, he found the bag containing cash missing.
He saw a person running away with the bag. Mr. Hasanabba followed the person, but failed to catch him.
Later, Hasanabba approached the police, who went to the spot and recovered the CCTV footage from a shop in the locality that shows a man fleeing the spot carrying Hasanabba’s bag. Efforts are on to nab the person, the police said.
