Mangaluru : Tulunada Rakshana Vedike took the drinking water problem faced by residents of to the door steps of Mangaluru City Corporation by a protest on May 10 Tuesday, against the MCC officials for who failed to tackle water problem in the city.
Yogesh Shetty Jeppu, District President of the Vedike while addressing to the protestors, said it was indeed a great concern that Mangaluru being known as an educational and economic hub was facing acute scarcity of water for last one month.
The authorities knowingly the alarming situation allowed MRPL and SEZ to draw water from Netravathi putting Mangaluru into such a crisis.
Situation at present was such, that people may have to consume contaminated water. Students in hostels run by many educational institutions have been sent for want of water, he added.
Yogesh Shetty demanded strict action against the officials who have plunged Mangaluru into such situation. A memorandum was later presented by Tulu Rakshana Vedike to the officials, listing out its demands. Members of Tulu Rakshana Vedike, Jyothika Jain, Ibrahim, Anand, Dinaker Shetty, Shashidhar Shetty and others were present.
