Mangaluru : According to a press release, this brevet will be flagged off from the IOCL petrol pump at Kottara Chowki at 5 pm on Saturday and will conclude at the same point on Sunday at 6.30 am. The mid-way turning point will be at the IOCL petrol pump at Trasi on the Maravanthe beach. Udupi Superintendent of Police Annamalai is one of the star participants.
The MACC is organising the event in association with Audax India Randonneurs, which is the sole authority for conducting and overseeing all BRMs and Audax events in India.
The riders will have to pass through the coastal cities of Surathkal, Mulki, Kaup, Udupi, Brahmavara, Kumbashi, Kundapura and Maravanthe, covering a distance of 200 km in the night. It is mandatory for the riders to wear reflective jackets and cycles should be fitted with powerful front and back lights lasting for the entire night ride.
Brevets de Randonneur Mondiaux (BRMs) are rides of fixed distances that are to be completed within the specified time limit, having successfully passed through pre-determined time controls. The recognition is equal regardless of finishing order. Each rider, who finishes the event within the cut-off time is awarded a certificate and a medal directly from the Audax Club Parisien (ACP). The rider will get a step closer to becoming a super randonneure and will get an opportunity to take part in one of the oldest and most-coveted cycling events in the world, the Paris Brest Paris event, held in France once every 4 years.
BRMs worldwide are approved by the ACP and governed by its rules and regulations. The MACC will provide a support vehicle as back-up for any emergencies, the release added.
