Mangaluru : The Railway Protection Force sleuths have arrested two persons allegedly involved in illegal booking of e-tickets.
According to RPF officials, they have been keeping an eye on travel agencies that are allegedly involved in booking tickets on the website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) using fake email IDs. These tickets are reportedly soled far above the actual ticket fare.
Following a search at Aditya Enterprises at Bendoorwell on Tuesday, the RPF personnel seized several e-tickets and the related register. Going through the login details, the RPF personnel found that tickets worth Rs. 51,197 had been illegally booked. The police arrested Vasanth Achanwas for the offence under Section 143 (Unauthorised carrying on of business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets) of The Railways Act 1989.
They also raided Travel Maa outlet in Kankandy and seized receipts and registers related to e-tickets worth Rs. 51,668 that have been purchased. The RPF personnel arrested Ashram. The RPF said that travel agents were barred from booking e-tickets using personal email IDs. The agents have to get permission from the agency authorized by the IRCTC to book tickets, an official said.
