Mangaluru : Mayor Harinath on Friday said that the government was likely to authorise the council of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to finalise single tenders without waiting for the approval from the Deputy Commissioner.
Having met the Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake in Bengaluru recently, Mr. Harinath said that Mr. Sorake had promised to issue an order to this effect in a couple of days.
Hitherto, the MCC had to wait for the approval of the Deputy Commissioner whenever a single bidder had participated in any tender. This had been coming in the way of speedy execution of projects whenever there was delay in the approval. Hence, MCC had urged the Minister to authorise the council itself to approve such tenders.
Mr. Harinath also said that the MCC had urged the government to empower the corporation to sanction projects worth up to Rs. 5 crore, instead of the present Rs. 1 crore. The MCC has to send the files for government approval to Bengaluru if the project cost was beyond Rs. 1 crore and this has been causing delays. The government responded positively, he added.
