Mangaluru : As the state Department of Transport has decided to follow a uniform policy, questions have been raised whether it would affect the private transport sector in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
Though the policy does not mention anything regarding renewal of permits, the future of several private buses in the twin districts looms in uncertainty. However, a decision has been taken that no new permits would be issued for private buses.
Thousands of people derive their livelihood from private buses in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi; moreover, these buses are a lifeline to people in both the districts.
It is said that private transport in Hubballi-Dharwad would be allowed to run till the permits exist and renewal will not be permitted, but it is not clear whether the same fate awaited the twin districts.
President of Canara Bus Owner’s Association, Rajaverma Ballal said that they would submit objections to the notice after consulting legal experts.
