Mangaluru : Four houses were washed away due to sea erosion and 10 other houses were facing threat in the heavy rains in the Ullal Someshwar area in Dakshina Kannada district, official sources here said.
Several houses in the region had been washed away due to sea erosion in the last couple of years.
Sea erosion is being reported from about 2.2 km sea front between Batpaady and Someshwara where four houses were damaged completely.
Preventive action would be taken through Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded project and the district administration had initiated steps, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said.
Several houses on the coastal region were facing threat of being washed away by the turbulent waves following heavy showers in the region.
The region has been prone to sea erosion during the monsoon the past few years.
More than 70 houses in Kotepura, Mogaveerapattna, Kileriyanagar, Kaiko, Subhash Nagar and nearby were facing threat, the sources said.
A permanent sea wall along the coast is being built.
Ullal town municipal council president Hussain Kunhimonu and councilor Hanees visited the affected areas.
