Mangaluru: MP Naleen Kumar Kateel ordered NHAI to clear the unauthorised buildings, hoardings on the National Highway land.
Speaking in a meeting held at the ZP office, Mangaluru on Monday he said that No illegal buildings should be allowed on the NH land. No private individuals should be allowed to construct bus shelter on the highway. Mobile canteens should not be allowed to function on the highway land.
NHAI official Ajith Kumar said the service road work at Surathkal and B C Road will be completed by December.
He said, “The NHAI has sought permission from the forest department to fell trees and shift 137 electric poles from Mescom to lay a service road in Surathkal. Barring the work on two flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu, the four-laning of road has been completed from Nanthoor to Talapady. A sum of Rs 24 crore has been sanctioned for the service road project and maintenance work on the National Highway 66. Only Rs 4 crore has been utilised so far. The remaining work will be taken up after August,” he said. He added that water puddles are created at Bykampady, Honnakatte and Thumbay.
Suspected dengue deaths:
District Health Officer (In-charge) Sikandar Pasha said 11 suspected dengue deaths have been reported in Dakshina Kannada.Out of 11 deaths, the death audit has confirmed three cases are due to dengue in the district. Surveillance teams have been sent to all the vulnerable areas, apart from destroying larval formation and removing water stagnation dengue-affected areas. Private medical colleges have deputed postgraduate medical students in primary health centres for attending cases related to vector-borne diseases in the district, he added.
Zilla panchayat Vice President Kasthuri Panja said the government hospital at Moodbidri did not have any doctors when she visited on Sunday. The DHO promised to initiate action against the same.
Delay in NUHM:
The official in-charge of National Rural and Urban Health Mission said seven new buildings for health centres have to be constructed in Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) limits. Land for five buildings has been identified, of which, the estimate for two buildings have been sent to the government for administrative approval. Government land has been identified for two health centre buildings at Kunjathbail and Shakthinagar. The revenue officials are yet to hand over the map of the land to the NUHM.
On delay in implementing NUHM, zilla panchayat CEO P I Sreevidya said the delay in the work will affect the release of funds under NUHM next year.
Sea erosion
The official said that two houses have been washed away following sea erosion in Ucchila and Someshwara in Mangaluru taluk. The boulders are being dumped on 500 metre stretch in Ucchila and Someshwara to check sea erosion.
The MP directed the official to submit a report on loss of property due to sea erosion to the DC for the release of compensation.
