Mangaluru: “Mangaluru City Corporation has called for separate management of dry and solid waste under the theme of ‘mix malpodchi akka mix madbedi anna’. The corporation is working towards ‘Smart swacch Mangaluru’, as a part of it corporation urges all the people to separate dry and wet waste. Dry waste will be collected by the new waste management unit once in a week and wet waste will be collected ever day,” said MCC Mayor Harinath, on Friday.
In a council meeting at MCC meeting hall this decision was taken by the council members. But while expressing disappointment on it Sudhir Shetty Kannur said that the same project was implemented two years ago in court road and Mannagudde, but it wasn’t a successful one.
“Now, all of a sudden implementing the same project in all 60 wards is a barely possible thing. Officials left concerning about the matter after handing over the charges to the Antony Solid Waste Management Company. Company has wasted crores of money in the name of solid waste management. All the agencies working under MCC should be given targets for efficient work,” he said.
Replying to this Mayor said that MCC has already spent a huge amount of money on the company. Another Rs 2 crore will be spent on solid waste management. The responsibility will be given to the officials and they should take it seriously.
Corporator Vinayraj raised the traffic problems in the city, “95 per cent of the buildings do not have parking facility. How door number is given to the apartments without parking facility? Even trade license is also given for those commercial buildings who do not have parking area,” he said.
Chief Whip of the government in legislative council Ivan D’Souza was felicitated by the Mayor on the occasion.
MCC Commissioner Muhammad Nazeer, Standing Health Committee Chairperson Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
