Mangaluru: In a shocking incident nearly 10 – 12 jail inmates were found working near jail superintendent’s house out of jail premises on Thursday.
Most importantly there was only one guard who was looking after these undertrial jail inmates. All these developments are against to the rules and regulations of the Karnataka prisons department.
The rule says that jail inmates are not allowed to work outside the jail premises. Moreover, only the convicted persons can work inside the jail, not the undertrials. Undertrials should not be compelled to work inside the jail also.
While asked about these developments with the jail Superintendant V Krishnamurthy, he accepted that the undertrials had worked outside of the jail premises and this was a part of ‘Swach Bharat Mission’.
After all these things the question which remains is- what if the jail inmates had attempted to escape from the spot, while only one guard was present? What if the jail inmates were attacked by someone outsiders having some sort of grudge? Who will be held responsible for these incidents?
