Bengaluru: On the occasion of 70th Independence Day as many as 320 life term convicted jail birds will be freed based on their good conduct and goodwill gesture.
This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting. 272 male convicts who have served their 14 years of life inside the jail and 48 female convicts who have spent their 10 years in the jail will be freed, said State law Minister T B Jayachandra after the meeting.
Later he said that the arrested innocent farmers during Karnataka bundh on July 30 will be released on bail.
Nearly 187 farmers were arrested during the protest in various part of Dharwad. The protests were carried out questioning the interim order of the Mahadayi water dispute tribunal.
The Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar said that based on the interim report submitted by ADGP Raghavendra the government has decided to provide legal help to the farmers and to release them on bail. The cases which were imposed later will be withdrawn.
