Mangaluru: “When a person’s brain dies, his heart will be still beating. During this time donating the vital organs will save another patient’s life. But more awareness should be created with regard to organ donating,” said A J Hospital Medical Director Dr Prashant Marla.
He was addressing the gathering in world organs donation day, organised by A J Hospital and research centre, A J dental Sciences, A J Medical Sciences and Indian Dental sciences Association DK, at A J Hospital hall on Friday.
“Once a brain dies, then the patient cannot be treated for more. It will be useless. Only 5% of brain dead patients are donating their organs. More than lakh people will die because of accidents. If 25% of such cases donated the organs then many could survive,” he said.
Dean of A J Institute and Medical College Dr Ashok Hegde said that nearly 5000 people are dying after waiting for someone who donates organs. All religion stresses the point of reincarnation, donating a organ is equal to reincarnation.
Urology Chief Dr Sunil, Indian Dental Sciences Association D K President Dr Shishir Shetty and others were present.
