Belthangady: Mathrushri Hemavathi Hegde, Dharmasthala hoisted the flag on the occasion of Independence Day celebration at SDM College Rathnavarma Stadium, Ujire.

Though it was a rain ridded day, even the rain couldn’t stop the students from expressing their respect and commemorated scarifies of the freedom fighters.

Hemavathi Hegde and other guests entered the stadium with NCC guard of honour.

Later, speaking to the reporters SDM Degree College Botany department HOD Dr B A Kumar Hegde said “our ancestors fought for the freedom and some scarified their life for it. We are commemorating the Independence Day because of them. We should know the real meaning of freedom. Misusing the freedom is equal to showing disrespect to the country and the freedom fighters.”

Further he said that the present generation should work towards building a health and wealthy nation.

SDM Educational Institution Trust Secretary Dr B Yashovarma, Principal Dr Mohan Narayan and others were present.
