Mangaluru: BJP national president Amit Shah’s programme on the Mangalore University campus on August 21 will be an apolitical one, according to Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament.

Addressing media here on Thursday, Mr. Kateel said that no party flags or symbols or banners would be used in the 70th Independence “Balidana Smarane” programme.

It would be a programme to remember Rani Abbakka of Ullal who had sacrificed her life for the freedom of the country, and also the contributions made by other freedom fighters.

After arriving at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station at 4.30 a.m., Mr. Shah will plant saplings in front of the BIP’s district office at PVS Circle at 10 a.m. Later, he would inaugurate Tiranga Yatre of vehicles at Pumpwell at 10.20 a.m. No party flags, banners would be used.

The yatre would proceed to Mangalagangotri campus of Mangalore University via Thokkottu.

After inaugurating the yatre, Mr. Shah would garland Rani Abbakka’s statue at Ullal at 11 a.m.

He would address a gathering at the Mangala auditorium of the university at 11.30 a.m.

The programme would end by 1 p.m.

Mr. Shah would leave the city at 4 p.m.

Mr. Kateel said that he as a Member of Parliament would invite leaders of all parties to the programme.
