Udupi: State Forest and Environment Minister Ramanath Rai laid foundation stone for Tree Park at Badagabettu, Manipal on Monday.
Later speaking to the media personnel, he said that the park will be set up in one acre of land at the coast of Rs 1.30 crore.
“Intention of growing this park is to spread awareness about the importance of nature and balancing the nature. Walking track, toilets and a children’s park will be made available for the people. A trekking park will also be completed within a year or so,” he said.
He further said that the forest department has taken special initiative towards conserving sandalwood in the state. To increase the sandalwood cultivation ‘Siri Chandanavana’ scheme will be implemented. A sandalwood park has been implemented in Veerakamba in DK district, soon one park will be implemented in Vandaru, Udupi.
“Even the corporate companies are also joined their hands with the government. Under CSR activities environment conservation also will be included,” he added.
