Mangaluru: District in-charge Miniter Ramanath Rai inaugurated the workshop on e-waste management, on Friday at Mangaluru City Corporation.
MCC has tried all possibilities to solve the problem of e-waste management. So, this workshop was organised for the officials and members of MCC.
MCC has proposed to have kiosk bins in City Centre Mall, Corporation office premises, Srathkal and MCC premises.
Speaking on the occasion Rai said that global awareness should be created regarding e-waste management. Recycling of e-waste is a best idea to manage it.
Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Environment Officer Rajashekar Puranik said that e-waste contain deadly elements like lead, cadmium, mercury, PCBs and other chemical substances. If these elements are exposed to the open environment, it may prove hazardous.
Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza said that Minister Ramanath Rai is the first forest and ecology Minister who have showed special concern towards ecology and environment. He has also shown interest towards tackling the climate change.
MLA Moideen Bava, Mayor Harinath, MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer and others were present.
