Mangaluru: A mother alleged that her daughter committed suicide due to the dowry harassment from her in laws. She also registered a complaint regarding this at Moodabidiri police station on Friday.
The complaint was registered by Varija Shetty of Belthangady. Her daughter Swathi Shetty (25) had consumed poison and committed suicide on August 18.
Swathi had married to Sharathchandra, son of Bhoja Shetty of Moodumarnadu in 2014. Just after one month from marriage Sharat had gone abroad. Swathi was a MSW graduate and used to work at Mangaluru.
Swathi had also spoken about harassment on her with her mother on August 13. Mother had explained her to be patient and sent her back to in law’s home. But in the evening there was no reply for the calls made by Varija Shetty. Varija Shetty called Swathi’s neighbours and enquired the matter. When neighbour went to Swathi’s home he found Swati lying semi unconscious due to poison consumption.
She was rushed to the hospital at Moodabidiri, but she didn’t responded to the treatment and breathed her last on August 18.
Police had registered a suicide case.
Now with Varija’s complaint, the case has taken a new turn.
