Mangalore : The department and District Health and Family Welfare have taken an initiative to conduct Mass Administration Programme 2011, as a part of National Filaria control programme, said Dr O R Srirangappa, District Health and Family Welfare officer.
Speaking at the press meet held at his office on Jan 6, Thursday, he said that the administration has arranged the programme to consume the Filaria control tablets for the public on Jan 10, Monday in the Mangalore City, Mangalore Rural, Bantwal and Puttur Taluk limits.
He also said that, the programme will be implemented in 52 health centres of the limit s of three taluk and limits of 60 wards in Mangalore City.
Giving away the details of the programme coverage, Srirangappa said that, the administration will cover 234 villages, 6 cities, 341971 houses, 1494276 people. There are 865 medicine distribution centres, 5742 distributors, 574 supervisors appointed for the programme.
There are 35 hydro-cele cases and 17 new micro filarial cases from January 2010 and 13 new filarial cases identified, he said. He also said that from 1991 around 1348 cases came for the treatment. The disease is identified after 10 to 12 years after infected.
Dr Arum Kumar, District Malaria Officer, said that there are four fixed centres in Katipalla, Ullala, Bokkaptna and Amlamogaru in Mangalore for the blood tests and other temporary centres in Suratkal, Bengre, Bantwal City, Kanyana, Kurnad and Navoor changes every year.
The most affected places in Mangalore are Suratkal, Ullala and Mannagudda. There is no cases found in Sullia and Belthangady and hence there will be no programme held, he added.
