Udupi: A boat was hit to the rock and seven fishermen were rescued by the Coast guards who were trapped in it, near St Mary’s Island, Malpe on Monday.
A boat named Gopisagara was coming back after fishing for 8 days in the sea. On the way the boat hit a rock and got damaged. All the fishermen jumped into the sea and climbed the nearest rock and waited for the help. They couldn’t send any message to the rescue team as their boat was damaged.
On Tuesday morning another boat called Keshav Kunder spotted the fishermen and tried to help them. As the boat was big, they couldn’t come near to the fishermen. After they sent a message to the coast guards to with the help of local boats cost guards rescued the fishermen.
Vasu Naik, Subbayya, Jagadish Bhat, Santosh, Manjunath, Panduranga and Vasudeva are the fisher men who were rescued by coast guards. They have been admitted in district hospital for the further treatment.
The incident have cost loss in lakhs. Boat worth Rs 40 lakh has damaged completely. Fishes worth Rs 7 lakh were lost in the incident.
District in-charge Minister Pramod MAdhwaraj, Udupi Sp and others visited the fishermen in hospital.
