Mangaluru: Even as the Supreme Court on Monday modified its order on the quantity of Cauvery river water to be released from Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir in Mandya district to Mettur Dam in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu, senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary has offered a solution to the ongoing crises.
Addressing mediapersons here, Poojary, who has been vociferous in his opinion, advised to create political unrest, by asking the elected representatives especially corporators and MPs, including those of Congress party to resign, build up pressure on the Union government eventually leading to its collapse. If it happens, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha will be hapless and the issue would be solved in a jiffy, he said.
Poojary also dubbed the contrasting statements of former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda and his son (former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy) over the issue as big circus.
He suspected the credibility of Union Water Resources Department Secretary Shashi Shekhar who is on the board of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT).Poojary said, “According to Shekhar, the expert committee is too infirm to solve the issue. One has to read between the lines to know as to why did he make such a comment or is he too leaning towards Tamil Nadu. One will definitely understand, if one vets
into his background, for having been on central service since 1981.”
Poojary sought a befitting reply from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the attack on Woodlands Hotel, owned by a Kannadiga in Chennai, even as the media briefing was on over Cauvery row.
At one point, Poojary doubted the courage of Siddaramaiah and asked whether he was afraid of his Jayalalitha, due to which he agreed to release water to the neighbouring state. Taking exception to the release of water, Poojary said, “Still, we have fallen short of five tmcft of water as KRS has only 13 tmcft of water against 18 tmcft to meet the requirement as per the apex court’s order.” He also advised the chief minister to take a cue from his predecessor S Bangarappa, the then chief minister, who had shown chutzpah by denying to release water to Tamil Nadu at any cost.
Poojary, who claimed to have known Jayalalitha well, said, “I have seen her both inside and outside Parliament. She used to shiver, whenever I rose (to speak in the parliament).”
