Mangaluru: Farmers of Dakshina Kannada gathered in a huge number and staged protest against the Supreme Court’s verdict over Cauvery water dispute, on Tuesday at DC office.
Protestors carried out a protest march from clock tower, Hampankatta to the DC office and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
Addressing the protestors lawyer Chengappa said that the protest has been staged to show the unity in Karnataka.
“As the water is much needed element in agriculture, we are supporting the farmers of Mandya and districts who use Cauvery water. Protests of farmers of some districts will not be fruitful, if they didn’t get support from rest of the farmers,” he said.
He further said that, as the rain fall is not reached the expectation level, it becomes harder to release water to Tamil Nadu. Moreover, other unnatural projects like Yettinahole project, Kumaradhara hydel project will affect the agricultural land of respected areas.
