Mangalore : Director Vijayalakshmi Singh’s new Kannada film “Vaarevah” is inspired by Mel Gibson starrer “What Women Want” where the lead character can read a woman’s mind.
In 2004 Director Kedar Shinde too selected the same story for his Marathi film “Aga Bai Arrecha”. Ms Singh now follows the Marathi remake with slight changes in the Kannada version to suit the personality of actor Komal Kumar.
Here the protagonist’s wife who see her husband in various roles of Vishnu is the plus point in the plot of “Vaarevah”.
“Vaarevah” is an engaging film because of Komal Kumar’s performance. The film was been shot in Uttara Kannada district, which gives it a perfect backdrop.
The dialogues written by Shankar Bilemane and Magesh have a great impact. Though the Camera work is good, the music is not up to the mark. Komal Kumar saves the many sequences from being fallen flat with his facial expressions and body language.
The story goes around Adi aka Adesh Deshpande who works in a Travel Agency. He is dutiful to the dictates of his dominating female members of his family including his mother and grandmother.
The shy present in him makes him to lose his girlfriend. He later marries Roopa, an assertive girl who imagines her husband to be legendary actor Vishnuvardhan.
Later, Adi realizes he has the skill to read a woman’s mind. Finally, Adi meets a psychiatrist who advises him to use this skill to get positive results.
His skill help him to stop an attempt to blow up a bus and a mall by a woman terrorist and even gets appreciation from the government agencies.
The film all the way tries to maintain the laughs in every moment of the film with the acting of Komal. Actress Bhavana Rao also impresses with her striking performance. Mayuri as Komal’s strict boss has done a good job and Parvathi looks glamorous.
The film lacks technical front because of Ajay Vincent’s competent work behind the camera.
