Mangaluru: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) Dakshina Kannada unit staged stir against the ban on sand mining, on Tuesday in front of DC office.
While addressing the gathering civil contractors association President Purushottham Kottari said that 268 members of civil contractors association need sand to complete the ongoing work, but DC has banned the sand mining. There were hopes on the new DC and we were expecting justice from him, but he has continued his silence on this matter.
“Though the dates of ban on sand extraction have been over, the ban hasn’t lifted yet. Many people are struggling for the sand. We warn district administration to hold a massive protest, if no action taken on this matter immediately,” he said.
KRV President Anil Das said that there is a drought of sand in the district. Daily wage workers are also facing problems. Meanwhile, the sand is being smuggled to other districts and states illegally by some powerful people.
“We have realised that the new DC is also under pressure. Some are still extracting the sand and delivering it to the concerned places during night times without any problems. They also own 12 wheeled truck and we really don’t know from where they do get the permit for all this,” he added.
Vinayak Pai, Vijay Vishnu Mayya, Dinesh Addur and other were present.
