The campaign was jointly flagged off by the MCC Mayor Harinath and Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza. Students shouted slogans against the child beggary, which dragged the attention of passerby people.
Child Helpline Chief Rennie D’Souza in her address said that many children who should have get the rightful free education are begging on the road. Many of them are below 18 years and they should have got cloths, books and food at the government schools.
“Such children are not supposed to beg inside the city. When the government is taking care of such children, why to beg on the road? The public also should know this fact and they should not encourage them to continue begging. If any child found begging, then it should be reported to the child helpline,” she said.
