Mangalore : “Special Mela for the Disabled” was organized by the Asha Jyothi of Canara High School on Jan 9, Sunday, providing an opportunity for around 800 special kids to dance to drum beats, fly colorful kites, take rides on giant wheels, and eat orange candies, chaat, and ice creams.
Many kids also participated in swinging cradles, Bethaala Kunitha, and other activities.
The event also comprised of medical checkups and information camps regarding government schemes and facilities for the special kids. Many speech therapists, osteopathologists, pediatricians, physiotherapists, and gynecologists participated in the event.
Speaking after inaugurating the mela, Mayor Rajani Dugganna said that special kids must be given special attention not only from the government, but also from the general public.
K. V. Rajanna, State Commissioner for Disabilities presided over programme. Dr. K. N. Vijaya Prakash, MCC Commissioner, K. P. Achaiah, Assistant General Manager of Corporation Bank, and Dr. Ravichandran, Managing Trustee of GT Foundation were the chief guests.
Asha Jyothi President B. Shrinivas Rao welcomed the gathering and Seva Bharathi Trustee U. V. Shenoy delivered the introductory address.
