Mangaluru: Freedom fighter and Gandhi Foundation, Mangluru former president Karunakar Uchil (94) passed away due to long time illness at his residence at Uchil Sankolige on Monday.
He had taken part in 1942 quit India movement. He was arrested for distributing the hand bills and bulletins on February 6, 1943. He was sent to jail for 14 days. After he was released from jail, he continued his fight against the British.
He was a active member of Congress at Ullal. He continued his fight for the development of his village also. Fisheries road, electricity, borewell to Ullal are the some works which were influenced by him.
Minister U T Khader, MLA J R Lobo, AC Dr Ashok, Prabhakar Shriyan and other delegates visited his home.
He has survived by his wife, daughter and a son.
